INSTRUCTIONS

A thorough DIY Home Energy Audit may take one hour or more to complete.  Less thorough audits can be completed in less time but may not be as accurate and useful.

1. Choose to either print the entire audit (recommended) or fill it in online as you go.

NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT SAVE DATA ENTERED ONLINE.

2. If you choose to walk around your home with a printed copy, rate each condition and then enter your ratings online.

Ratings are as follows:
0 = N/A
1 = Disagree
2 = Agree/Some
3 = Strongly Agree/All

3. For any condition in which a rating of 2 or 3 is entered, a recommendation will appear along with a cost range for implementing that recommendation.

4. Upon completion, you can print or email a copy of your score and full audit report.

2. After completing the audit, enter your email address to receive a copy of your score and full audit report.

3. The full audit report will be best viewed from a computer monitor as it will contain recommendations for each condition in which energy waste was identified.

Suggested Materials

The following list of materials (optional) will help you conduct a thorough audit:

1. Thermal leak detector - available on loan from participating County Extension offices

2. Tape measure

3. Thermometer

4. Five gallon bucket or similar

5. Flicker checker (if you have fluorescent tube lighting) - available on loan from participating County Extension offices

6. Power monitor - available on loan from participating County Extension offices

7. Phillips head screwdriver
